Our Team

John Ensom

Business Principal / Funeral Director

In 2007, John and his wife, Julia, founded Ensom Funeral Services (now Ensom & Biswas Funerals) in Papakura, dedicated to providing compassionate and personalised care to families in need. With decades of experience, John is a trusted and respected figure in the community, offering guidance and support during life’s most challenging moments.

His journey in the funeral industry began in 1973 at just 17 years old. Over the years, he has built strong connections with families, churches, and community organisations. Between 1989 and 1995, he also worked as cabin crew for Air New Zealand while continuing his commitment to the funeral industry.

John’s varied life experiences and deep understanding of people allow him to offer comfort and reassurance when it matters most. Outside of work, he enjoys time with Julia, his family, and their dog, Gina.

Manager / Funeral Director

Saurav (Rav) Biswas

With over a decade of experience in the funeral industry, Rav brings deep compassion and professionalism to his role as Manager at Ensom & Biswas Funerals. His journey into the profession began with Auckland Council Cemeteries and Crematoriums, where he discovered his passion for supporting families during some of their most challenging moments. What began as a calling soon developed into a lifelong commitment to ensuring that every family receives the care and dignity they deserve.

In 2015, Rav and his wife Rebekah endured the heartbreaking loss of their daughter, Eveana. This profound personal tragedy gave him an even deeper understanding of the importance of his work, reinforcing his dedication to providing empathetic, thoughtful service to others experiencing loss.

Rav’s extensive background includes working with large corporate funeral homes, but his desire to offer a more personal, community-focused experience led him to join Ensom Funeral Services (now Ensom & Biswas Funerals). His leadership is marked by a hands-on, heartfelt approach that emphasises local care by locals for locals. Rav also specialises in Repatriation Services, and over the span of his career has established close working relationships with overseas associates -  in particular with industry and consular professionals in Australia, Canada, UK, India and Nepal - allowing him to provide the highest standard of care and comfort to families needing repatriation advice and planning.

Rav is proud of his Kiwi-Indian family and values his time outside of work with Rebekah and their two energetic sons, Aarav and Eli. He also enjoys socialising, spending time with friends, listening to music, and finding balance between his personal life and his passion for supporting others.

Toni Burton

Office Coordinator

Born and raised in Papakura, Toni is a valued member of the Ensom & Biswas Funerals team. She takes great pride in working for a truly family-owned and operated business, ensuring families receive the care and support they need during difficult times.

A devoted mum to her 14-year-old daughter, Ella, who keeps busy with dancing, netball, and school, Toni understands the importance of family and community.

Before joining the funeral industry, Toni spent seven years working in London and travelling extensively. Upon returning to Papakura, she pursued a career in event management, with one of her major projects being All Blacks Corporate Hospitality.

Toni’s journey into funeral services was deeply personal. After the sudden loss of her brother, Mark, she realised her calling to support bereaved families. Her diverse life experiences and ability to connect with people from all walks of life make her an invaluable part of the team, ensuring that every family she assists feels heard, supported, and cared for.

Beyond the funeral home, Rebekah values family time and enjoys creating meaningful moments with loved ones. Her warmth, dedication, and unwavering support make her an irreplaceable part of both her family and the business.

Funeral & Admin Support

Julia Ensom

After founding Ensom Funeral Services with her husband John, Julia took on the role of Office Manager, ensuring the smooth running of everything, while providing warmth and support to the families they serve. Over the years, her role has evolved, and she now also assists with funeral and administrative support, bringing her caring nature and strong organisational skills to every aspect of the business.

Throughout John’s decades-long career in the funeral industry, Julia has been his greatest supporter, playing a key role behind the scenes. With a background in administration and customer service, she brings a calm and compassionate presence to every interaction.

Deeply connected to the community, Julia takes pride in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for families during difficult times. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with John, their family and friends, as well as walking their beloved dog, Gina.
